travel & research grants
the society offers schemes to support members to communicate their science at conferences, develop collaborations and experience research in different environments.
eligible members of the society can apply for a federation of european microbiological societies (fems) meeting attendance grant. please see the fems grants page for details.

funds are available to eligible members to support their attendance at the annual conference or one other society meeting per year.
funds are available to support eligible members presenting work at scientific or education meetings. eligible members may also apply for funding to attend a short course or training event. eligible members may also apply for funding to support registration for virtual or online events.
the society offers a limited number of awards to enable undergraduates to work on microbiological research projects during the summer vacation. applications must be made by the project supervisor on behalf of a named student.
the society offers grants of up to £3,000 to support members who are planning a short (one- to three-month) research visit to another laboratory. this scheme supports innovative projects within established collaborations and the development of new collaborative initiatives.
these grants offer undergraduate student members a contribution towards the cost of travel to the royal society of biology bioscience careers day.
